The Cologne branch of Parkett Dietrich is located in a former bacon smokehouse, which was built in 1965 and gave the starting signal for the development of the Weiden district. A lot has happened here since then. Among other things, the beautiful wooden floors from Parkett Dietrich moved in in 1999. "The ovens were removed, but otherwise we have retained many of the old details, such as the mullioned windows," says Sales Manager Dirk Radau. The steel construction was left visible during the renovations to remind people of the industrial past. And the former loading ramp became the entrance area with four-meter-high walls. What a welcome!
With its 1200 square meters of exhibition space, the Cologne building is Parkett Dietrich's second largest and the only one for which the family had a modern extension built - a simple, white cube, smoothly plastered and with recessed spotlights. Very elegant: the steel window frames are anthracite-colored.

"Yes, our customers notice details like this," says Radau happily. While the old building has 800 square meters of flooring - "especially the Landhausdielen in all its variety" - the new building has 400 square meters. In general, the 40 walk-in exhibition rooms in Cologne have a simpler design than in the other buildings and accents are mainly set with design classics, such as the Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe.
A highlight of the visit is the first floor of the new building. This floor is fitted with exclusive floorboards that are up to ten meters long. "You can't imagine how spacious it looks," enthuses Radau. "You have to see it!" Another surprise awaits customers on the second floor of the building: here, antique floors - i.e. floors that look like they come from old villas or castles - meet minimalist loft architecture. A revolutionary look that creates a wonderfully relaxed and warm living atmosphere.
It's also worth taking a closer look at the stairs that connect the old and new buildings in a sophisticated and simple way. Take a longer look at the steps, after all, they are also part of the program - and demonstrate the perfection of the craftsmanship in their clear lines. This is exactly what Parkett Dietrich stands for.
